Guilty Match
Guilty Match
GUILTY MATCH formed in 2002 in south Austin, Texas. Their many hours spent writing, rehearsing, recording, and performing have allowed them to develop a unique musical presence. Influenced by a variety of bands and artists, they blend their individual talents and personalities to produce eclectic songs that range from hard rock to soulful pop.
April, the lead vocalist, has had formal operatic training, and sings within a three-octave range from earthy alto to stratospheric soprano. Her literary background informs the storytelling aspect of her passionate lyrics.
The other half of the songwriting team is John, the lead/rhythm guitarist. He creates pieces that exhibit relentless force and addictive hooks. His love of classic rock guitar is apparent, yet he has established his own voice on the instrument.
The bassist Wayne is the newest band member. A veteran of several Austin pop-rock bands, he adds glue to the mix by incorporating weighty notes, space, and melodic lines.
On drums and percussion is Patrick, who began his rhythmic pursuits at a young age, and intensely enjoys communicating through the drum set. His driving pulse lays the firm foundation for the band.
Some past GUILTY MATCH performances have been at Saxon Pub, Strange Brew, Red Shed Tavern, Cherrywood Coffeehouse, Carousel Lounge, Momo’s, and Scholz Garten. The band can perform multiple 45-minute sets and are equipped, if needed, with their own sound system.
The 13-song CD entitled Parhelion was released in the summer of 2008, and after subsequently releasing a few singles, GUILTY MATCH is working on a new album at Sounds Outrageous studio.
The ability to express ourselves through music is a privilege we do not take lightly. We are driven to conjure sounds from wood and steel while conveying a message. We take cues from everything we have ever heard, but notably the late 60's through the 80's provide our creative palette.
Our music is rooted in hard rock and power pop. We write from the heart, sometimes deep and thought-provoking, sometimes light and whimsical. The vocal weaves its magic over the guitar's intertwining riffs, chords, and articulate picking, fused together with nimble bass and primal drums.
